(if you don't have it yet get
it from Downloads)
Goto File, then Options. You
will see 6 tabs: General, Advanced, Ignore, Logging, Intelligence, Servers.
General
select the following:
-run minimized
-use SysTray
-block PortScanners
Select IRC client
mIRC or pirch (depends on what you're using)
DDE services
default mIRC (if you're using pirch add it)
Default PortOptions
select the following:
-play sound (select a *.wave sound)
-Enable DDE link
-Disable port for 60 secs
-Flash Icon language: English
Advanced
current slots you should have the following:

All the ports who aren't in current slots as default you have to add them manually. You
can do this by selecting in current slots one with the name unassigned, then you fill out
the port to monitor and the protocol. Then click the add/modify button.
Ignore
